The best way to know the charms of Palma Bay, one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, is crossing its waters and admiring all it could offer us.
The tour will take place in the surrounding area of the National Sailing School, a prestigious and well-known school due to the fact that it was the place where the Prince of Spain started in the sailing world. It has to be mentioned that currently it is a centre of high performance for elite skippers.
During the entire route we can enjoy of the excellences of the Majorca seaboard, as well as its beauty and history. Palma Bay offers the sailors many places to contemplate such as the Cathedral of Majorca, La Seu, which is the only gothic cathedral facing the sea, built over the centuryies (from XIII to XVII), and in which the first stone was placed by Jaime I reign in 1.229. Moreover, there is another gothic masterpiece of the architecture, La Lonja, which was built between 1.420 and 1.452 by Guillem Sagrera. At that time it was a place destined to business and merchants meeting.
Our route will lead us to Maritime Promenade. It is the night life, nautical clubs location and sport harbour hub more significant of the island. Indeed, every year there are two of the most well-known international sailing trophies in the Nautical Real Club of Palma: Sophie Princess and Sailing King Cup.
An essential place to visit is Bellver Castle, which construction was ordered by the King Jaime II and it was built between 1.309 and 1.311. It was initially created as a royal residence, however, in XVIII century it became a military prison, some of the illustrate prisoner was the Spanish writer, jurist and politician Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos. The round floor of the Castle is a real peculiarity due to the fact that it is the only one in Spain and the third one in Europe with this characteristic.
Leaving behind the Bay of Palma, we will go on to Illetas. It is a residential area nearby Palma and it hides some of the most beautiful beaches and coves. On the journey we can admire the Marivent Palace, it was Juan de Sadirakis painter property until 1.965, when his widow handed over him the County Council where he arranged it for the use and enjoyment of Asturias Princesses at that time (nowadays Spain Kings), who since then spend the summers in such a privileged enclave of the littoral.
During the approximately two hours that the tour last, you can enjoy swimming in the sea of an exceptional environment of Palma Bay, surrounded by the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea, its pristine blue and emerald green waters, its mountains and its lush vegetation of Holm oak and pine trees.
